Culture Wars of 1990's are back

This week has been filled with a wide variety of news. Some important some not. Such things like O.J. Simpson rumored to be Khloe Kardashians father. The Mimi Alford Interview and how JFK's intern breaks silence about affair. Or what about Steve Jobs FBI file reveals bomb threat? Sure this news may be interesting but we are talking about a girl who got her fame from her dad, and two dead people. This news isn't important!

What is important is the fact that abortion and gay marriage are at the center of American politics right now. Social issues ,such as these, dont typically dominate the politics. But one thing they do is they are great for showing emotions.  And such emotions can lead to factors like voter turnout. These social issues though, can become a key tool for any candidate wanting attention.

The public listens to the what the TV's and radios are talking about. Now since the people have taken a stand, the politicians will now go after it.

Economy is still on top of the voting list, as well it should be. But it is not clear which party will benefit from this because of abortion opposes gay marriage or whether cancer research should be immune from politics. None the less jobs, jobs, jobs, and more jobs have been the center piece for both parties since the bust of '08.  The easiest way to put it is that; voters have gone angry as the economy crawls toward stability. 

Last Wednesday the tides changed.

After Rick Santorum won all  three states and stalled Romney's win streak. Congressional leaders turned the table. They talked about the White House's policy on how birth control coverage was a government mandate that threatens religious freedom and violates the Constitution. A Speaker of the House, John Boehner, who is a Catholic said, "This attack by the federal government on religious freedom in our country can not stand and will not stand." GOP candidates competing for conservative votes talked about how they want to remove religion and morals from public discourse. In other words, war.

Romney, a Mormon, has really embraced these social issues more than he ever has in this campaign. Romney said, "The Obama Administartion is waging an assualt on religion."

Santorum said, "The Obama Administration is tryiing to shutter faith and push it out of the public square." He also talked about how the administraton is taking the faith and crushing it.

Newt Gingrich, a Catholic, stated, "Democrats have declared war on the Catholic Church.

I Honestly dont know whether to believe what any of the candidates are saying or not but like Tina Katcheves, a patient attorney from Howard County, Md., said, " I really think this election will turn on the economy."
